What a way to make a living

Working 9-5

Wow. I never thought I'd be doing the 9-5 thing again. Actually, I never did the 9-5 thing. I owned my own daycare back in the day. I made my own hours. They were 7-5 but still, I made them.

This is scary as hell people. I wanted a part time job. One day a week. We're in financial difficulty, but if we're frugal, we'll be OK. We HAVE to sell the house in Michigan. We HAVE to sell the smaller house here in Florida. We HAVE to sell the 5th wheel and the truck. After that, we'll be fine. Until then? It's freaking hell. I'm not complaining. I know people have it a whole shit load worse for sure. Our financial situation right now is of our own choosing. Lots today sure can't say that! TBM has 3 days at work, hoping to pick up 2 more. So far, that's not happening. So, I'd pitch in, get a day a week in the office at the park. Ya, well, that turned into 40+ somehow! WTF????

I have to learn things. I have to learn to be prepared ahead. I did NOT want to fix dinner last night when I got out of work. Well, that's a bad example as yesterday I got up at 6, went to the dermatologist, had something frozen off my head, rushed home and went to work, skipping both breakfast AND lunch. Rushed out of work at 4:45 to get to WW then rushed to eat dinner and rushed to shop. STOP THE FUCKING TRAIN! This is NOT going to be my life. I'm too old for this shit! OMG people, how DO you do this?????

So, now here it is 8am of another 9-5 day and I'm in my nightie typing this drinking coffee chatting on AIM to a friend. Breakfast? Nope. Hell I'm not even dressed yet. Lunch? No frigging idea. Dinner? Hell no, definitely no idea about that.

Kinda scared peeps.

Peace be the journey

:-)

  1. It can be a rat race. Just think if you had kids to get ready, etc. Yikes. Planning ahead is very important. Fortunately my husband is home an does the cooking as I told him if he wants to eat, he has to cook. That's no problem because he likes to cook and I don't. I'll clean up. What I like to do is make a big baggie full of salad and put extra things for it in little containers and I take it to work for the week. I love salad. I add dried cherries, edamame, nuts, chicken, etc. I cut up Romaine, and add match stick carrots and broccoli slaw mix. That way lunch is ready for the week. Also have yogurt or extra things handy in my desk. Maybe have a Fiber One bar or something for breakfast. I know you want to be "retired" and enjoy Florida and not work 9-5. I don't blame you. Have you had any showings on the MI property?

  2. I pack a bag the day before my long days... I do not work many hours but the shifts are split in such a way I have to be gone 7 am to 9pm tue and thur. So last night I put a yogurt and apple a string cheese a low calorie soup and some baby carrots in my lunch bag in the fridge and I may ad a sandwich this morn. Then I pre cooked my steel cut oats and had them with frozen blueberries as a sweetener and a handful of walnuts for a BIG breakfast that will last through my lifeguard shifts to noon. Once home... you cant go wrong with a salad and chicken on the george foreman grill

  3. I have long long long days up at 4:45 AM ... treadmil, breakfast, pack my work food, get ready for work and I leave at 6:30 AM and I get home at 6:30 PM

I don't do dinner's, too late and too stressful.... the hubs is on board with this, he get's home about 3;30-4 and doesn't want to wait until 7 pm to eat so it works out

    plan, plan, plan, plan

just like the old days, when the kiddos were small... funny we did all that planning and it comes back full cycle

stock up your frig, your purse, your desk, the office frig and life will be fine. If I don't plan I am a recipe for disaster, I am a grocery store manager and the easiest junk is chips, and cookies all the conviently packaged "make me fat" foods

    sigh.... it never ends :)

  5. I have to echo what everyone else says about planning ahead. I plan all my meals in WW Etools for the week on Sunday, and anything that I can premake/prepackage I do on Sundays as well. (bag single servings of carrots, crackers, wash veggies, etc) then I pack everything the night before. I eat breakfast and lunch at work and then hubby and I cook dinner together after the gym. One of our favorite things to do together.
Another time saver for me is that I put together 2 weeks of outfits at a time twice a month, ironed and hung together in the closet, so I don't have to think about it in the morning.
I know you already know this, but you have to eat to lose weight, so skipping meals is a no-no, Miss Debby! I'm sure you will get the hang of it. Sending positive vibes your way.
p.s. we have an extra house in MI to sell too... I feel your pain!

  6. I carry a chicken breast with me to work every morning so I can slap it onto the little George Foreman grill and have a nice piece of chicken jerky for lunch, because without fail, someone will call or walk in and talk and talk and talk until my poor lunch is cooked to death.
On the days this doesn't happen, it is tasty and keeps me filled up until I get home.
